The Journey So Far

Hello! I’m Joseph Yeates, a data enthusiast with a passion for driving better decision-making by creating, curating, and communicating insights from data. I work primarily in Power BI, Excel, SQL, Python, and R, with further experience in Tableau, dbt, and Google Cloud, enabling me to tackle a wide array of challenges across different industries.

I created this website as a platform to showcase my projects, share insights through my blog, and connect with like-minded enthusiasts. Whether you’re here to explore my work, seeking collaboration, or just curious about data, I’m glad you stopped by!

Through my experience with data in Retail Banking, I have leveraged SQL for data extraction and manipulation, R for predictive modeling, and Power BI for recommending action to a wide audience. I used these tools to deliver comprehensive insights, with projects including:

  • Client Segmentation model to propel personalized customer service
  • Client Engagement model to enhance client retention and penetration
  • Client Digital Scorecard to foster digital engagement

These projects not only underscored the transformative power of data in shaping business strategies but also reinforced my expertise in navigating complex datasets to drive meaningful decisions.

In my transition to e-learning, I embraced the role of an educator and content creator, developing and presenting a curriculum that bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in Business Intelligence and Data Science. Crafting courses for Excel, R, and Python for data analysis, alongside an extensive Power BI curriculum from fundamentals to advanced case studies, I equipped a diverse audience with the tools and understanding to tackle real-world data challenges. This experience has not only expanded my skill set but also fueled my passion for sharing knowledge and empowering individuals in their journey through data analytics.

Beyond the technical skills, I believe in the importance of community and sharing knowledge.

I’ve presented at numerous user groups and conferences, sharing best practices and lessons learned from my experiences. I also maintain a blog and YouTube channel where I delve into topics related to data analysis, visualization techniques, and the latest trends in technology.

I regularly speak at the Vancouver Power BI & Modern Excel User Group and am always looking for opportunities to speak and present to any community group, so please feel free to reach out!

Outside of data, my weekends start early with Liverpool FC matches, and as an avid runner I have completed a few half-marathons. I am aiming to complete a full marathon one day – probably while listening to my favorite podcasts or Dreamville album!

Let’s connect! Feel free to contact me on your preferred platform. I’m always open to discussing new projects, opportunities for collaboration, or simply exchanging ideas over coffee.

Thank you for visiting my corner of the internet. I look forward to connecting with you.
